Hey Tyler,
I was wondering what your experiance is with NC streams after big rains like this. I know natives and big brooders are stonger swimmers and know how to get out of the current, but fresh stockers not so much. I know in western NY they watch the rains when they dump in the spring for this reason. Maybe NC does the same and has postponed stocking this month with this big storm approaching, I know I didnt see any fresh ones in the Mitchell.
Lance
Lance,
The streams here can get pretty violent after a lot of rain. It happens enough to where the wild fish acclimate to it pretty quickly. The stockers on the other hand seem to hunker down on the bottom of a familiar run/pool and kinda wait it out. Back in February, NCWRC postponed stocking on the Reddies River near Wilksboro, NC due to a dredging operation on North Wilkesboro's reservoir. They were afraid that the newly stocked fish would not survive the fast, turbid water, so they halted all scheduled stockings. As far as I know, there aren't any postponed stockings due to the heavy rain. All of this water has made fishing dangerous and tough.
Nice video!
I liked it too. I didn't make this video though. Give Project Healing Waters the credit.
